FATHER NEIL – UPDATE – Father Neil had to return to hospital last Saturday where he remains. There have been several complications. Unfortunately, this will delay his return to work. Please pray for a speedy recovery. In his convalescence, Deacon Andrew will be in charge of the parish. He may be contacted on 07 977 391 622. Until Father Neil is fully recovered from his operation he will be unable to answer emergency call-outs. In the next few weeks if you need a priest in an emergency, you should in the first instance try either  Father Michael on 0121 354 1211 or Father Allen on 0121 354 1763 or you can ring the Dean, Father Simon on 07 985 753 391.Fr. Neil thanks you for the many cards and well wishes he has received, but especially for your prayers.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ LUNCH – The next lunch will be this Tuesday December 4th. It will begin at 11.30am in the Church Hall when the children from Holy Cross School will once again entertain us with their singing. Lunch will follow at approximately 12.15pm.  Please note that there will be no Mass on that day due to Father Neil’s convalescence. Please sign the list in the porch if you wish to join us.

DIOCESAN ADVENT CALENDARS – These calendars are for those who do NOT have a child in Holy Cross School.

JOHN PAUL II MULTI ACADEMY – ADMISSIONS 2020 / 2021 – to the following schools: St Joseph’s, Sutton Coldfield, St Nicholas, Boldmere, Holy Cross, Walmley and Bishop Walsh Catholic Secondary School that form part of the St John Paul II Multi Academy. The Board of Directors has published the proposed Admissions Policy and SIF  (Supplementary Information Form) to be implemented for the schools websites for the consultation period. Please refer to these new policies if you are considering making an application for the 2020 / 2021 intake in any of the above schools. Should you want to comment or discuss the proposed policy content, please email: j.farrell@sip2.net  before February 1st 2019.

HOLIDAY / PILGRIMAGE TO BANNEUX, LIEGE AND BRUGES 2019 Sunday June 23rd – Friday June 28th. If you are interested then please put your name on the list in the porch and make a deposit of £100 (per person) now due. The cost per person for this six days / five nights pilgrimage is £599.00 pp. (£125 single supplement).

MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION – The church will be open at 10.15am each Tuesday in order for you to take the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and housebound.

RED BOX COLLECTION – Red Mission Box holders please bring your box to church at the beginning of December for emptying. It will be returned mid-December for collection from the Parish Office.

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Birinus was sent to Britain by Pope Honorius in about 630AD to spread the Gospel further north than ever before.  He planned to move to the Midlands and reached as far as Dorchester near Oxford.  He wandered around the South Midlands successfully teaching and preaching.  Birinus built many churches but after only fifteen years he died.  A shrine for pilgrimage was built.  His shrine was moved several times between Winchester and Dorchester.  It is believed that he still lies in Dorchester to where the Church of England holds an annual pilgrimage. The feast of Saint Birinus is celebrated on December 5th.

+ REST IN PEACE + Please pray for the repose of the soul of Anne Mulrennan who died recently. Anne will be received into this church this Sunday December 2nd at 5.00pm. Her Requiem Mass will be celebrated here on Monday December 3rd at 1.00pm  followed by burial at New Hall Cemetery.
