CHRISTMAS CRIB OFFFERINGS – This year our Crib Offerings will be given to support the work of Saint Chad’s Sanctuary in assisting the homeless in our city.

RED MISSION BOX HOLDERS – Please collect your box from the Parish Office.  The next collection will be in March.

NEW ROTA FOR EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS – The new rota beginning next weekend 12th /13th January is available from the Sacristy.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – The course for these children will begin on Saturday January 12th in the Father Berry Room in the Church Hall immediately following Mass at 10.00am.

CONFIRMATION – Parents of children in Year 6 (or above) and NOT in Holy Cross School who wish their child / children to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in July 2019 must give the following details in writing: Name, address, next of kin details, date of Baptism and church of Baptism, school and year. This information should be posted through the Presbytery letter box. The first Confirmation catechesis class is scheduled for February 2019 at 8.30am in the Father Berry Room in the Church Hall – further details will follow.

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Raymond of Peňafort OP He was a Catalan Dominican friar in the 13th century, who compiled the Decretals of Gregory IX, a collection of Canon Laws that remained a major part of Church law until the 20th century. He was born in 1175 in a small town near Barcelona. He was educated in Barcelona and at the University of Bologna where he received doctorates in both Civil and Canon Law. He was Chaplain to Pope Alexander IV and Confessor of King James I of Aragon. Raymond was made Master of the Order of Preachers in 1238 but resigned in 1240. It was during his tenure that he revised the Dominican Constitutions. He was instrumental in the founding of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy. Raymond died in 1275 and was canonised by Pope Clement VIII in 1601. He is buried in the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia in Barcelona. He is honoured as the patron saint of lawyers, especially canon lawyers. His feast is celebrated on January 7th.
