CORONAVIRUS – UPDATE As of December 11th   – Please remember that the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday remains ‘waived’ for those who are ill or for those who are in fear of contracting corona virus. MASS OFFERED IN CHURCH It is now compulsory, and indeed law, that everyone entering Church must wear a face covering, the only exceptions are those who are medically exempt or under 5 years of age. Do NOT come if you are ill with or have symptoms of Covid-19. ‘Social distancing measures’ are relaxed  a system of a red card is in use – if people would like others to refrain from getting too close to them – It will read  ‘Please give me space’.  If someone puts this near them please respect it.  The last three rows of benches either side at the back of church are not for families or groups but for vulnerable individuals who need greater social distancing. Fr. Neil needs 4 volunteers to help clean our church after the 6pm and 10,30am Masses.

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Anthony the Great (251-356) also known as Saint Anthony of Egypt and Father of All Monks, was a Christian from Egypt, a prominent leader among the Desert Fathers. He is often erroneously considered the first monk, but his biography and other sources make clear there were many ascetics before him.  Anthony was, however, the first known ascetic going into the wilderness, a geographical move that seems to have contributed to his renown.  Accounts of Anthony enduring supernatural temptation during his sojourn in the Libyan Desert  inspired the often-repeated subject of the temptation of Saint Anthony in Western literature. Anthony is appealed to against infectious diseases, particularly skin diseases.  In the past, many such afflictions, including ergotism, erysipelas and shingles were historically referred to as ‘’Saint Anthony’s fire’’.  His feast day is January 17th.
