CORONAVIRUS – UPDATE – The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has agreed the cessation of all public liturgies. Because of the situation the Church finds herself in, the obligation for the faithful to attend Holy Mass on a Sunday or Holy day of Obligation is removed, until further notice.

This also means that all weddings and baptisms are cancelled/postponed for the time being. Funerals will be held with a maximum of ten people at the graveside or in the crematorium.

Should you be in ‘self-isolation’ and have access to the internet then you can watch mass ‘on line’. Simply go to the archdiocesan website home page and under coronavirus update you can use the links to see the various masses available. www.birminghamdiocese.org.uk. Or Fr. Neil’s last parish does this  – www.st-ambrose-barlow.org.uk follow the link to the web cam – Mass is at 10am on Sundays and 9.30am every day.

Here are some more options where you can follow the mass online:
https://www.wordonfire.org/daily-mass/ which is live at 8.15am or catch-up. There is also mass and other prayers and teaching on:
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/daily-readings this daily mass is at 8am
There are further resources on: www.cbcew.org.uk

At this time of uncertainty and anxiety with our churches closed for public worship, Pope Francis has called on the world’s Christians and people of goodwill to join together to pray the Lord’s Prayer on Wednesday, 25 March at 11am UK time (midday in Rome).

Sadly in obedience to Governmental advice Holy Cross Church is now closed,

CHURCH FINANCES – As you are aware the church survives financially by the weekly collections. Some of you pay by direct debit, many of you through the envelope scheme, but most of you by a donation in cash each week. This in time will become a problem. This week we have to pay the annual insurance bill – some £3000.00. May I ask you to think about, if you do not do so already, about starting a direct debit from your bank?

STATIONS OF THE CROSS IN LENT – Private individual Stations only.

WELCOME – We welcome Millie Louise Coulborn who was baptised here last Sunday.

CONFIRMATION 2020 – Children who were recently confirmed by Canon David Evans, but are NOT in Holy Cross school, Fr Neil has their certificates, and proof photographs. The deadline is fast approaching to get copies of the photographs.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK IN OUR PARISH

IN MEMORIAM – Please pray for the repose of the souls of parishioners whose anniversaries occur at this time: Edward Suter, Elsie Eva O’Malley, Patrick Moloney, Helene Hull, Kathleen Barwell, Thomas Joseph Hanlon, Rita Mary Willis, Kathleen Atkinson, Sheila Davis, Anthony Gilligan, Patricia Lemaitre, Emil Mihaila, Catherine Burns and Kathleen (Winnie) Spence.

+ REST IN PEACE + Please pray for the repose of the soul of Kevin Smyth and Patrick O’Connor who died recently. Neither will have a public Requiem Mass, in both cases the family will gather at the graveside.
