CORONAVRIUS UPDATE MAY 2022 – The Bishops of England and Wales met recently and produced a statement an extract of which follows: “Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, until the present time, we have shared with you our judgment that the situation of the last two years has meant that the Sunday obligation has been impeded and has needed to be fulfilled in other ways. We thank God that this situation has now changed. The pressing challenges of the pandemic have lessened significantly. Most people have resumed the wide range of normal activities, no longer restricted by the previous Covid measures. We therefore believe that the reasons which have prevented Catholics from attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation no longer apply.” This means that as of Pentecost (5th June)  ‘the ‘Sunday Obligation’ is restored and all Catholics should attend Mass on a Sunday unless they are ill.

2022  20/20 CRICKET – Once again the Parish will have an outing a Sunday afternoon 19th June to the Edgbaston Cricket Ground to watch ‘The Bears’ in a 20/20 cricket match. Father Neil says that despite the day being ’Father’s Day’ there is sufficient interest to book a coach. Please place you name on the list in the porch if you wish to go.( list not available until 28th May)

DANGEROUS CAR PARKING – There is a safety issue with cars parking on the pavement,  on the church side of the road , either side of the entry/ exit gates.  Parking here means that drivers trying to exit the car park cannot see on-coming traffic and on-coming traffic cannot see cars trying to leave the car park. If you are going to park on the road please do so further down away from the church.

LISTENING TO CHILDREN – Sacred Heart School, Aston, is seeking volunteers to listen to children read. Many of their parents do not speak English.  If interested, please contact Father Neil.

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Bede the Venerable. Born 672/673 AD and died on 26th May 735, Bede was an English Monk at the Northumbrian monasteries at Monkwearmouth and then later at Jarrow. He is well known for being an author, linguist and scholar, his most famous work being,  “The Ecclesiastical History of the English People”.  In 1899 St Bede was made a Doctor of the Church.  His feast day is May 25th.
