NO CONFESSIONS In the current situation
If you have a particular intercession you want prayed please send Fr Neil an email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone him. and he will offer it during the daily Mass.
CORONAVIRUS – UPDATE In line with the current law the present situation of ‘lockdown’ continues the obligation for the faithful to attend Holy Mass on a Sunday or Holy day of Obligation is removed, until further notice. This also means that all weddings and baptisms are cancelled/postponed for the time being. Funerals will be held with a maximum of six people at the graveside or in the crematorium. Should you be in ‘self-isolation’ and have access to the internet then you can watch mass ‘on line’. Simply go to the archdiocesan website home page and you can use the links to see the various masses available. www.birminghamdiocese.org.uk.
Fr Neil has purchased some £300+ of goods to prepare the church, so that when the law changes and we can be open again, we will be able to do so immediately.
Sadly Holy Cross Church remains closed probably until July.
EMERGENCY BAPTISM OF INFANTS (children aged under 7 years) In the case of an emergency (when a child is in danger of dying) and the ordinary ministers (bishop, priest or deacon) are not able to attend (as currently under Covid-19 restrictions) parents may baptise their child themselves. This is in accordance with Church Law – Canon 861 para 2. To administer the sacrament one of the parents must pour a little clean water three times over the child’s head whist saying the following words: “ Name.. (say here the child’s name) I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”. Having done this the child is validly baptised and the parents must, as soon as is possible inform their parish priest, so that the baptism may be recorded. At a later date, when possible, the parish priest will complete the Rite of Baptism.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2020 – Very sadly I am having to postpone the First Holy Communion celebrations that were due on 6th & 13th June this year, until later. I propose that when we can and complying with whatever regulations are then in operation, we will hold the First Holy Communion Masses on Saturdays later in the year.
VIRTUAL LOURDES PILGRIMAGE – Starting Sunday 24th May with Archbishop Bernard’s opening Mass at 3pm live streamed from St Chad’s… the week features daily Mass, liturgy and Rosary ‘processions’. Find the full programme on www.birminghamdiocese.org.uk/lourdes-pilgrimage .
NATIONAL ROSARY RALLY – Pentecost Sunday – 31st May there is the opportunity to take part in the National Rosary Rally. Diocese by diocese around the country at set times Catholics are asked to say their rosaries. May is after all the month of Mary – The day we were supposed to renew the consecration of our country to Mary was spoiled by the Coronavirus… so perhaps we should do this? Our diocese has the time slot 10.00 – 11.00am. I encourage you to take part from the comfort of your own homes.
AN APPEAL BY HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP BERNARD LONGLEY – As a Patron of FHL (Friends of the Holy Land), I am kept informed of the situation. Coronavirus is changing the lives of all of us but for so many Christians, especially in the West Bank but also Gaza, Israel and Jordan, it is devastating. For many they have no government support nor even a health service which can handle this crisis. So, FHL launched an appeal in March for those impacted in Bethlehem and widened it on 3 April as a Pentecost Challenge to cover the whole of the region. They secured match funding for the first £100,000 and, with a few days to go to Pentecost, are close to reaching the target but are seeking help from your parishioners to get over the line. www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk/pentecost-challenge will direct parishioners to the FHL website where more information is available. Thank you for your support to help those worse off than ourselves, as FHL strive to maintain a Christian presence in the Holy Land and please keep the FHL staff and volunteers plus those in the Holy Land in your prayers.
THE PARISH FACEBOOK PAGE – If you are familiar with social media – then we have a parish ‘facebook’ page – currently getting some 150+ daily views/likes. On this page I have placed some prayers and some activities – things that might be of some use to you whilst we remain under ‘lock down’.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK IN OUR PARISH – May the Lord grant them consolation, peace and healing. May God give all involved in health care in hospital or in the community, race, strength and perseverance.

+ REST IN PEACE + Please pray for the repose of the souls of Marie Turner and Jamie Hunter who have died recently. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
