CORONAVIRUS – UPDATE From July 19th 2021 – Please remember that the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday remains ‘waived’ – meaning you do NOT have to go to Mass at the moment. Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals are allowed in church with no legal restrictions on the number of people. MASS OFFERED IN CHURCH As an act of Christian love everyone entering Church is asked to wear a face covering, because there are members of the congregation who are immune-suppressed and vulnerable, the only exceptions are those under 5 years of age. Everyone will still be asked for their name and contact details – ‘track and trace’, which we will have to continue to do until the government decides not to do so. Do NOT come if you are ill with or have symptoms of Covid-19. The ‘one-way’ system of entrance/exit has been suspended and you may light your own candles. For the next couple of weeks we will maintain the current system of seating, whereby individuals sit towards the back of church, couples together in the middle and families together towards the front. Please try to maintain social distancing when in church.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS – to all our staff and pupils at Holy Cross and Bishop Walsh Schools. May they all enjoy a well deserved rest with family and friends.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT – The Blessed Sacrament is exposed for silent adoration usually for an hour before mass every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday (unless there is a Requiem or funeral service).
SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Martha of Bethany Jesus visits the home of two sisters, Martha and Mary who have a brother, Lazarus. The two sisters are contrasted: Martha was busy with many things when Jesus was their guest, while Mary had chosen ‘’the better part’’, that of listening to the Master’s discourse. Martha asks Jesus to raise her dead brother Lazarus making the confession, ‘’Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world’’. Through time the cult of Martha developed and she is thought of as an image of maturity, strength and common sense, where concern for others predominated. She is the model of hospitality. Her feast day is celebrated on July 29th.
