COLUMBAN INTER RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE SUMMER SCHOOL – The above will take place on three consecutive evenings – July 17th, 18th and 19th 7.00pm – 9.30pm. There will be visits to different places of worship in Birmingham, discussion on the Church’s teaching on inter-religious dialogue (IRD) and a chance to meet IRD practitioners from different faiths. SAINT OF THE WEEK – St Oliver Plunkett was ordained a priest in 1654 after studying at the Irish College, Rome. He stayed on in Rome as a professor and representative of the Irish bishops. In 1669 he was appointed Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland. He did much to reorganise and strengthen the Irish church, despite being forced into hiding for much of his episcopate. He was arrested in 1679 at the time of the ‘Popish Plot’, he was hanged, drawn and quartered in London on 1st July 1681, the last Catholic martyr to suffer in England. His feast day is celebrated on July 1st.
