SAINT OF THE WEEK Saint Jane Frances de Chantal was born in Dijon in 1572.  Her husband, Baron de Chantal died in an accident and at twenty eight years old and with four children Jane took a vow of chastity. In 1604 the Baroness met Saint Francis de Sales and he became her spiritual director.  With his support, after providing for her children, Jane started the Congregation of the Visitation. The new order was unusual in its public outreach, in contrast to most female religious who remained cloistered and adopted strict ascetic practices. At the time of her death, the order had eighty six houses. Jane Frances de Chantal was canonised on July 16th 1767 by Pope Clement XIII.  Her feast day is celebrated on August 12th.
