THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION 2026 – Archbishop Bernard has put into his diary Thursday February 5th to administer the sacrament of Confirmation in 2026. Parents of children in Year 6 in Holy Cross School or in year 6 or above in any other local school wishing their child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in February 2026, must attend a meeting in Holy Cross Church on 23rd October 6.45pm.
This year there will be a series of lessons from October to February immediately prior to the Confirmation itself on 6th February 2026 These lessons will be led by parish catechists and they will take place monthly, on Saturday mornings of each month for two hours, from 8.30am (prompt start) until after the 10am Mass on the following dates: 8th November 2025, 22nd November 2025, 6th December 2025, 10th January 2026 and 31st January 2026 (tbc). In these sessions instruction will be given in the following topic areas:
- A base line assessment and introduction to a project on their chosen saint.
- What Catholics believe – doctrines & creeds.
- The Sacraments – the seven sacraments in two sessions.
- Prayer – how, when, why.
- How Catholics live – how our faith impacts on our life choices.
Candidates will be expected to attend all sessions and the mass each Saturday. Parents will be most welcome to the Mass. They will be expected to complete the project before end of January and make their confession before the 5th February 2026. Instruction will take place in the Church Hall for all the above sessions. (08.30 – 09.55). Please include a passport sized photograph of your child with the basic information form, so that your child can be included on the display boards in church (return asap).
