SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Teresa of Avila – Saint Teresa was born in Avila, Spain, in the year 1515. At the age of twenty she entered the Carmelite Order and undertook the reform of the Order. This brought many trials but she was faithful to the Church and the Council of Trent. She contributed to the renewal of the Church and wrote outstanding works of mysticism and ascetism. Her spiritual teachings are a guide to life of union with God. She died ion the year 1582. She was declared a declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970. She was the first saint to receive this title. Her feast is celebrated on October 15th.
