CHURCH OFFERINGS – It may surprise parishioners to know that the weekly giving in 2015 was between £1,100 and £1,300 per week. Eleven years later, 2026, it remains much the same. Yet, in that time, inflation has meant that we are receiving some 30% less income each week. Father Neil knows that times are not easy but would encourage parishioners to think again about their offering especially if they give by Standing Order or by Direct Debit and have not amended it for years.

PART TIME SUPERVISOR FOR THE NEWMAN CENTRE – The Newman Centre is a charitable work of the Parish of Saint Nicholas, Boldmere. It offers resources of a community centre to groups and individuals in Boldmere and surrounding areas. There is a vacancy for a part time Supervisor, working 10 hours a week as required and offering regular opportunities for overtime. Wage £12.72 per hour. For further information please contact Kaye O’Keeffe, the Hall Manager. Email newmancc.boldmere@rcaob.org.uk or call 0121 321 2285

FORTHCOMING APPEAL – The Holy Family Sisters of the Needy are hoping to visit this parish later in the year to make an appeal for their work. The sister(s) will need overnight accommodation, dinner and breakfast. Is there a parishioner who would like to play host to them? Preferably it would need to be someone who can easily transport them to and from church. The parish will under write the cost to anyone who volunteers.

SAINT NICHOLAS’ WORLD DEVELOPMENT GROUP – This group supports the ‘Feed My Lambs’ school in Uganda and projects in Romania and Albania. The group extends an invitation to anyone who may be interested in attending their Annual General Meeting. The AGM will be held on Monday January 26th at 6.00pm in the Benedict Room situated at the rear of Saint Nicholas’ Church, Jockey Road.

THERE WILL BE NO VOLUNTARY RETIRING COLLECTIONS THIS OR NEXT MONTH

SAINT OF THE WEEK – Saint Thomas Aquinas (1224 – 1274) Thomas Aquinas was educated at the Abbey of Monte Cassino and at the University of Naples.  In about 1244, he joined the Dominican Order.  He is considered one of the greatest philosophers and theologians of all times.  Saint Thomas gained the title ‘Angelic Doctor’.  He had an undisputed mastery of scholastic theology and a profound holiness of life.  Pope Leo XIII declared him Patron of Catholic Schools.  His monumental work, ‘Summa Theologica’ was still unfinished when he died. His feast is celebrated on January 28th.
