SAINTS OF THE WEEK – Saint Patrick (385-461) Saint Patrick was born into a Christian Romano-British family. His first encounter with Ireland was as a slave after he was captured by raiders at the age of sixteen. After escaping, he studied in Gaul and was ordained a priest. Around 432, he returned to Ireland as a missionary bishop and succeeded in consolidating the faith in large parts of the country.
Saint Joseph was the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus. It is believed that he was born in Bethlehem and died in Nazareth. Joseph is presented as someone who is respectful and sensitive,
capable of placing Mary’s dignity and life above everything else, even above his own reputation. As we honour Saint Joseph as the husband of Mary today, ponder the effect of that unique marriage bond. Saint Joseph was not perfect, but his absolute obedience to the Father’s will and his unity in marriage to the Mother of God makes him our father, just as he was the father of Jesus. As a loving father, he will direct us with the authority of God the Father, will protect us in times of trouble as he did for Jesus and Mary, and must always be seen as one uniquely chosen to be the father of the family to which we all belong. His feast is celebrated on March 19th
